SONIA NAZARIO PULITZER PRIZE WINNING JOURNALIST AND AUTHOR OF ENRIQUE’S JOURNEY SPEAKING IN RICHMOND NOVEMBER 19, 2008

Sonia Nazario, the  Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and author of Enrique’s Journey: The Story of a Boy’s Dangerous Journey to Reunite With His Mother  will be speaking in Richmond on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Richmond Recreation Center 3230 Macdonald Ave. in Richmond.

The Richmond Public Library, LEAP, the Friends of Richmond Public Library, and the Richmond Public Library Foundation are presenting this event in partnership with Contra Costa College Library, Friends of the Contra Costa Library, The ACLU Berkeley/North East Bay Chapter and Concilio Latino.

In this astonishing true story, award-winning journalist Sonia Nazario recounts the unforgettable odyssey of a Honduran boy who braves unimaginable hardship and peril to reach his mother in the United States. Ms. Nazario will present to the Richmond community a detailed slide show of her investigation of the journey from Honduras to the United States.  The story of traveling   thousands of miles on the “Death Trains” is told through the eyes of a young man, Enrique.  Based on the Los Angeles Times newspaper series that won two Pulitzer Prizes, one for feature writing, and another for feature photography, Enrique’s Journey is the timeless story of families torn apart, the yearning to be together again, and a boy who will risk his life to find the mother he loves.

The event is free and open to the public, the building is wheelchair accessible.  Spanish translation will be provided.  Copies of the book, Enrique’s Journey: The Story of a Boy’s Dangerous Journey to Reunite With His Mother (Random House, 2006) will be available for purchase and signing.  For further information call LEAP at (510) 307-8165, or the Richmond Public Library at (510) 620-6561.
