(Date Clarification) Volunteer January 19 for Bay Trail and January 21 Greenway Improvement Projects

The National Day of Service work on the Greenway will take place on MONDAY, January 21st.

Martin Luther King National Day of Service on the Richmond Greenway

Help dreams (and berries) row Along the Richmond Greenway. Martin Luther King National Day of Service Project, Monday, January 21st from 9:00 am to 12:30. Meet at Berryland on the Richmond Greenway (6th Street and the Greenway right near Lincoln Elementary School). Work parties will work on Berryland, Lincoln School Farm, and the Greenway Swales. Also, an "away team" will walk the Greenway picking up trash, whacking invasive plants, and possibly removing graffiti.

The 5% Local Coalition and Opportunity West will be serving up morning and noon snacks made from food produced right here in West County.

Berryland will eventually contain more than 30 varieties of perennial berry buses open to all Greenway users. Nearby at the Lincoln Farm, third grade student farmers are working to grow fresh organic produce for their families. Planting along the Greenway swales will help hide fences and industrial buildings adjacent to the Greenway. These native plants will also reduce wtare pollution by reducing erosion.

Bay Trail Improvements at Point Isabel

There will be a major weed pull on Saturday, January 19th along the Bay Trail at Pt. Isabel (El Cerrito) and wed very much welcome your help! Its a great site (lots of shore birds) and once the non-natives are gone, the Trail will be absolutely gorgeous! Well also be opening the site up for better coverage by the existing native plant species and will be looking for opportunities to plant Toyon and Buckeye trees. According to the history books, Buckeyes once covered the Point, so it would be wonderful to re-introduce them.

Heres the plan:

Where Pt. Isabel (map to: Rydin Road, off Central Ave. near Costco)

When: Saturday, January 19th from 10 am to 2 pm
