The Richmond Environmental Defense Fund Annual Meeting will feature a presentation from Richmond native Suzanne Jones, Ph.D.,“Facing the Urgent Challenge of Global Climate Change

Join the Richmond Environmental Defense Fund for a presentation on what may be the most critical environmental challenge humans have ever faced. This talk will explain its underlying causes, the body of evidence relating it closely to human activities, its implications for life on earth and the pressing need for energy policy changes to mitigate it. Many alternative energy sources will be considered as will sequestration of carbon dioxide and other corrective options available. The discussion will describe the ways in which each of us contributes to global climate change and how we may become part of the solution.

Suzanne Jones has ten years experience in environmental and science policy. She has worked as a nuclear disarmament and arms control analyst at Princeton University's Center for Energy and Environmental Studies, and was a post-doctoral fellow at U.C. Berkeley in global climate change and global energy supply. She recently finished a major ecological renovation and energy-efficient upgrade of her home, which has been nationally recognized in publications on "green" building. In recent years she has advocated extensively for preservation of open space and wildlife habitat in Contra Costa County, and this summer will begin work at the Muir Heritage Land Trust. She holds a Master's degree in physics from Stanford and a Ph.D. in particle physics from Cornell. She has been active in the Richmond Environmental Defense Fund from its inception and served as its president for four years.
