Coastal Cleanup Day in Richmond
September 7, 2002
Many of you have asked about opportunities to participate in Coastal Cleanup Day in Richmond on Saturday, Sept. 21.

East Bay Regional Park District will be sponsoring coastal cleanup at both Point Isabel and Point Pinole Regional Shorelines. For information and to pre-register, which is required, go to:
http://www.ebparks.org/volunter/coastcleanup/coast1.htm

Also, County Supervisor and Marina Bay resident John Gioia is continuing his tradition of sponsoring coastal cleanup starting at Shimada Park in Marina Bay and working south toward Point Isabel. Participants are served a well-earned free barbecue lunch afterwards. Starting time is 8:30 a.m. (hot coffee/tea and snacks will be provided, to help fuel the clean-up juices). Work will end around noon when the free BBQ is served. For a map to the park and more details please see the attached file. For more information, call Kate Rauch in Supervisor John Gioia's office at 510-374-3231.

Wear old clothes and old, sturdy shoes. Bring work gloves and dress warmly, since it can get windy by the water. As the day warms and you generate body heat, you should be able to peel off layers.

Coastal Cleanup is always a rewarding experience -- seeing the resulting clean shoreline with good feelings of shared camaraderie which comes from neighbors working together on a common cause.
