RICHMOND ELECTION REFORM ACT

Efforts are under way to gather signatures to place on the November ballot an initiative which would amend the way we elect our Mayor and City Councilmembers.

As it stands now, we can elect the Mayor or a member of the Council with significantly fewer than a majority of the ballots cast.  Is that fair?  Will this provide elected representatives that are actually representing the majority of the people they claim to serve?

EVERY election from county seats, through statewide seats and national seats ALL have a primary election with the top two moving to the General Election.  If a candidate earns 50%+1 of the ballots cast in the primary, that candidate is automatically elected.
