PRM Presents Maurice Tani & 77 El Deora and
Pellejo Seco next Friday, August 9th!

Point Richmond Music’s (PRM) free summer concert season continues on Friday, August 9th! This marks the halfway point in our 2019 line-up and you won't want to miss another great evening of live music. From 5:30 to 8:00pm, enjoy two acts, Maurice Tani & 77 El Deora, an Americana band rooted in country music, and Pellejo Seco, one of the most inventive Cuban bands in the Bay Area.

The street series runs on the second Friday of the month through September in historic downtown Point Richmond (Park Place between West Richmond and Washington Avenues). In addition to free music, every concert features food trucks, face-painting, an opportunity drawing, Friends of the Richmond Public Library book sale, and dancing in the streets.

Local restaurants offer a wide array of cuisines, and concert-goers can pair fine food with beverages from PRM’s no host bar (including local beers from sponsor-in-kind East Brother Beer Co.!), with proceeds directly supporting the music series. Festival-style seating is available with a limited number of chairs provided, and concert-goers are encouraged to bring their own festival/lawn chairs. PRM, an all-volunteer non-profit organization, produces the series in support of its mission to build community through the unifying language of music. Maurice Tani & 77 El Deora
5:30pm - 6:30pm
www.mauricetani.com
Known for his wry/rye-to-romantic songwriting, agile guitar style and expressive singing, Little Village recording artist Maurice Tani uses the term “Supercalifornographic” to describe his particular flavor of Americana. While rooted in country music, his writing is centered on an urban-western perspective.

Pellejo Seco
6:45pm - 8:00pm
www.pellejoseco.com
One of the most inventive Cuban bands in the Bay Area, Pellejo Seco draws on Afro-Cuban folklore and the latest Havana dance music. The name Pellejo Seco is partly a tribute to the hard lives of farmworkers and their sun-scorched skin, and it’s also Havana street slang.

Friday, September 13
5:30pm - 6:30pm – Matt Jaffee
www.mattjaffemusic.com
Matt Jaffee is a singer/songwriter from San Francisco. Cutting his teeth on open mics around the Bay Area, Matt started pursuing music more seriously when Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads offered to produce his first record. Matt has opened for Mavis Staples, Wilco, and Blues Traveler, and co-written with the likes of Chuck Prophet and Tom Higgenson of the Plain White T's.

6:45pm - 8:00pm – Extra Large
www.extra-large.net
Voted Best Local Band in Santa Cruz County nine times running, Extra Large splices together funk, Latin, reggae, and classic California rock. This veteran six-piece ensemble has become a California coast staple adept at heating up dance floors, concert stages, and festivals with their original dance music.

About Point Richmond Music:
Point Richmond Music (PRM) is a 501c3 nonprofit public benefit organization that provides free outdoor summer concerts as a way to build community through the unifying language of music. PRM concerts provide a gathering place for people of all ages, ethnicities, and walks of life by featuring musical talent from Richmond, the Bay Area and beyond. In addition to producing a free summer concert series, the group is proud to help support year-round music through its sponsorship of the Point Richmond Jazz series, which runs October through May at the First United Methodist Church, and to foster the development of the next generation of musicians through contributions to Washington Elementary School’s music program. Eighteen years of this collaborative effort have relied on donations of time and money from volunteers and local businesses and organizations.

The idea to create a concert series in downtown Point Richmond originated from Richmond City Council member and current mayor Tom Butt. He made the suggestion in 2001 to Michele Seville (now the Arts & Culture Manager for the City of Richmond) and several other members of the Richmond Arts & Culture Commission as a way to foster community through music and promote local businesses. A small group began to meet and formed Point Richmond Music. Today the PRM Board is: Andrew Butt, Bryan Delaney, Pam deWitt Delaney, Duane Fitzgerald, Bruce Kaplan, Kimberly Paternoster, Michele Seville, Amy Ukena and Christina Zirker.
