Richmond Residents To Celebrate National Night Out

National Night Out - August 1, 2017
While August may mark the City Council recess, you don’t have to take a break from getting involved in your neighborhood. The first Tuesday in August is National Night Out. Bring the family out for a few hours for  to meet and greet your neighbors!

On Tuesday, August 1st The City of Richmond will join over 35 million residents to celebrate National Night Out, a day which commemorates residents working to make their neighborhoods safer and community policing partnerships.

The City of Richmond Crime Prevention program, the Crime Prevention Executive Board and local residents plan this event to celebrate residents who work hard to make neighborhoods safer by getting involved with neighborhood watch, neighborhood councils and crime prevention activities.

The public is invited to a brief kick off the celebration located at the Target Store Parking lot at 4500 Macdonald Avenue.  The night will kick off  kick off ceremony community carnival  and resource fair children’s activities, food,  performances from local youth groups.

This year’s festivities will feature four caravans consisting of law enforcement, community and elected officials that will  meet and greet and sample tasty treats from over twenty neighborhoods around the city. The “End Party” will be hosted by the Barrett Terrace Apartments, the Iron Triangle Neighborhood Council, the Richmond Mainstreet Initiative, Pogo Park, and the Bay Area Rescue Mission at 700 Barrett Avenue. Join us there at 8:00 pm to reconvene from the caravan for the closing activities.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the kick off, or a neighborhood block party. Organizers are asking that residents turn their porch lights on Tuesday night in support of safe neighborhoods.  “Even if you are not able to participate in the neighborhood activities, please turn your porch lights on in your neighborhood on Tuesday to show your support,” said     Crime Prevention organizer Naomi Williams.
