TGIF: Don't Miss our Free Concert
Featuring HowellDevine & Second Line Tonight!

Our summer-long concert series continues this evening (7/14) with HowellDevine (Mississippi and Delta blues) and Second Line (New Orleans funk and soul)! Join us at the corner of Park Place and Washington Avenue for a street party like no other. From 5:30pm to 8:00pm, downtown Point Richmond transforms into a family-friendly festival with live music, arts and crafts booths, face-painting for children, an opportunity drawing, and dancing in the street. Our full 2017 line-up is available at www.pointrichmondmusic.org.
Local restaurants offer a wide array of cuisines and a rotating selection of food trucks will pull up to each concert, including Curbside Kitchen and Tacos Azteca. And it’s not a party without ice cream; Humboldt Creamery will hand out free tastes of its organic chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavors. Concert-goers can pair fine food with beverages served from PRM’s no host bar, featuring craft beer from sponsors-in-kind Lagunitas Brewing Company and Benoit Casper Brewing, with proceeds directly supporting the music series. HowellDevine (Mississippi and Delta blues)
www.howelldevine.com
Formed in 2011, the Northern California trio of HowellDevine became the first blues band renowned Arhoolie Records (Fred McDowell, Lightnin' Hopkins, Big Mama Thornton) signed in 27 years. Triple threat talent Joshua Howell (slide guitars, harmonica, voice) and percussion savant Pete Devine (drums, washboard) plus snappy doghouse bassist Joe Kyle Jr. deftly mix sinuous Delta/country blues with wildly syncopated rhythms to create a rollicking present day sound from the past..

6:45 - 8:00 PM –
Second Line (New Orleans funk & soul)
www.secondlinemusic.com
Second Line brings a taste of the bayou influenced by the music of New Orleans. The band has a loyal following that thrives on the energy and party vibe that emanates from the stage during every show. Their musical vocabulary spans funk, jazz, blues, soul, and rock from the Crescent City. You’ll hear Mardi Gras and New Orleans funk classics by The Meters, Neville Brothers, Dr. John, Jon Cleary, Earl King, The Radiators, & more – plus original music with a spicy Big Easy flair.

Coming up on August 11th:

Delta Wires
5:30 - 6:30 PM
www.deltawires.com

The Delta Wires is a high-energy harmonica and horns 7-piece band dedicated to modern blues while paying tribute to the blues origins of the Mississippi Delta. Brainchild of band leader, vocalist, and harmonica player Ernie Pinata, the Delta Wires was voted best band by the East Bay Express and Oakland Magazine, and was inducted into the California Blues Hall of Fame in 2012. They have performed at the San Francisco Blues Festival, Russian River Blues Festival, and the Monterey Bay Blues Festival, among others, and have toured or played with many noted artists including Van Morrison, John Lee Hooker, and Buddy Guy. The band recently released its seventh album Born in Oakland.

Bicicletas por la Paz
6:45 - 8:00 PM
www.bicicletasporlapaz.com

Oakland-based Bicicletas Por La Paz puts on a true Latin funk circus. The eight piece group of musicians, circus performers and bike activists use music to address activism, police brutality, and to offer a strong message with change on the brink. “Yes, we want people to feel good, but we want them to think, too. Think and dance.” The group came together when lead singer Adley Penner had a vision of bringing his music on the road by bike. The bands first tour was a six month journey down the California coast and through Mexico. “It really is like a circus, a show,” Penner says. “We have jugglers, skits, and dancers who dive into the crowd. There’s plenty of call and response on songs. We like the audience to take part and become involved in it all.”
