  Thanksgiving Day Turkey Shoot Gathering
November 17, 2014

This is perhaps the strangest event in Richmond, an annual tradition for over 30 years. No actual turkeys will be shot, but there will be shots of Wild Turkey.

Event: Thanksgiving Day Turkey Shoot Gathering
Host: Andrew Butt - Pam DeWitt - PRBA
Time: Thursday, November 27, 2014 10:00AM until 11:00AM
Location: Richmond Plunge, Richmond

This will be a family friendly event. The group will meet in front of the Richmond Plunge then walk thru town arriving at the end in back of Starbucks parking lot where a poem of Thanksgiving will be read aloud with a warm drink for adults for adults that can be purchased and something for the kids. A fun local gathering of friends and family.

After the Turkey Shoot, you may want to attend the Annual Thanksgiving Feast at the First United Methodist Church. For eighteen years, FUMC has been bringing the community together to serve a free Thanksgiving Feast. After an Interfaith Worship at 11:30 a.m., dinner is served from 12-2 p.m. to some 200 people. Community donations help make this event possible. To donate or volunteer to help, contact Fran Smith junosmith@aol.com, (707) 427-2131.

The Turkey Shoot Poem through 2013. What will be added for 2-14?
RELAX ON THANKSGIVING? NO SIREE, WE DO HOOT,
CHEW T’BACCA AND SMOKE A CHEROOT,
CAN LIFE GET BETTER? IT IS A TOOT,
SASHAY ON DOWN TO THE TURKEY SHOOT!
THANKSGIVING IS A TIME TO RECONSTITUTE,
IF YOU ARE FLYING HIGH, OPEN YOUR PARACHUTE,
FLOAT ON DOWN, IT’S A TOOT,
EASY LANDING AT THE TURKEY SHOOT!
IF THERE IS SNOW, RAIN, ASH OR SOOT,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
PARADE DOWN THE STREET PAST OUR INSTITUTE,
IT IS OUR BELOVED HOTEL MAC, WITHOUT DISPUTE,
LINE UP! STRAIGHTEN UP! IT IS A TOOT,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
TRUCKIN’ DOWN THE STREET PAST OUR INSTITUTE,
MC GOWEN’S GARBAGE TRUCK WE DO SALUTE,
NO ESKIMO CELEBRATION FOR THE ALUET,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
ONWARD AND UPWARD WE DO HOOT,
TO A HIGHER PLANE, WE DO TRANSMUTE,
THIS IS BIG TIME BABY!--ROOTY TOOT TOOT,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
EVERY PERSON HAS SOMETHING TO CONTRIBUTE,
OF THAT THERE CERTAINLY IS NO DISPUTE,
CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING AT IT’S MOST ACUTE,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
FROM THE PLUNGE TO THE SPOT, IS OUR ROUTE,
BEAT THE DRUMS AND PLAY THE FLUTE,
DON’T STAGGER OR STUMBLE, YOU BIG GALOOT,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
DON’T DRINK YET, STAY RESOLUTE,
BUT A TOAST TO GRIFF, HE’S SO CUTE,
HE’S ALSO THE MAN WITH ALL THE LOOT,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
AND A TOAST TO THE POLICE ESCORT, TOO-BOOT,
THEY CHASE THE BADDIES IN HOT PURSUIT,
HEAR THE SIRENS AND HORNS GO TOOT TOOT?
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
JUST LAUGH OUT LOUD, AND RAISE YOUR BUMPER SHOOT,
DOWN TO THE SPOT WE DO SCOOT.
THANKSGIVING IS THE DAY TO HOOT,
BUT POINT PEOPLE DO NOT DRINK CHAMPAGNE BRUT,
OR EVEN VODKA, LIKE THE FANCY ABSOLUTE,
FOR REAL MEN AND WOMEN WILD TURKEY WE DO SHOOT!
OUR WOWMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL, OUR MEN HIRSUTE,
HOLD GLASSES HIGH FOR THE TURKEY SHOOT,
NEITHER A DRIP DO DRIBBLE, NOR A DROP TO BOBBLE,
READY NOW?---GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE!
IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM,
LIVING IN THE POINT HAD NO PEER,
LIFE WAS WONDERFUL, ALWAYS A TOOT,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
IN TH EYEAR 2001,
LIFE WAS CHANGED BY THE TALIBAN,
BUT WE REMAIN STRONG AND RESOLUTE,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
HERE WE ARE IN 2002,
MARCHING FOR PEACE, DRINKING WILD TURKEY BREW,
BUT WE ARE EVEN STRONGER AND MORE RESOLUTE,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
UNITED AGAIN IN 2003,
WITH ALL OF US AND YOU AND ME,
LINE UP, STRAIGHTEN UP, IT IS A TOOT,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
THERE IS GOING TO BE A LOT MORE IN 2004,
STAY RIGHT HERE, DON’T UPROOT,
THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!

THEN COMES ARE WONDERFUL 2005,
AREN’T YOU JUST HAPPY TO BE ALIVE?

THIS IS THE ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT!
2008 UPON US ROLLS
A HISTORIC YEAR WITH HIGHS AND LOWS,
AMONG THEM, SADLY, OUR BARD OF JEST
SAILS BEYOND THE GATE, HE IS AT REST.
BUT LET’S NOT LET THIS TRADITION GO,
LET’S PASS THE TORCH, STAVE OFF THE WOE.\WE KNOW OUR BARD WOULD WANT IT SO...
PLEASE FRIENDS, DRINK UP AND SHOUT “YO HO”

WITH DRUMS, BELLS, HOOTS AND WHISTLES,

ADULTS SINGING SONGS AND ANXIOUS CHATTER,
ON OUR WAY FROM THE PLUNGE TO THE SPOT AFTER
TO LIFT OUR GLASSES AND TAKE A SNOOT
