MCE Customers Expected to Save $5.9 Million in 2014
May 15, 2014

For Immediate Release: May 15, 2014

SAN RAFAEL, CA — PG&E implemented a rate increase on May 1, 2014, resulting in even greater cost savings for MCE customers. Projections indicate $5.9 million in savings for MCE customers in 2014. The City of San Rafael saved more than $30,000 by choosing Marin Clean Energy’s (MCE) Light Green 50% renewable energy service in 2013. A comparison of the City of San Rafael’s annual usage at current rates results in an even larger savings of approximately $47,000 in 2014.

The analysis was prepared by comparing the City’s actual utility payments in 2014 with PG&E’s otherwise applicable rates for the year.

“There’s no question that MCE saved the City money while reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by allowing us to purchase electricity from more renewable sources,” said San Rafael Councilman and MCE Chairperson Damon Connolly. “It’s thrilling to see MCE saving us money while bringing new renewable power sources to our back yard.”

The financial benefits for the City of Richmond have been even more pronounced. The City of Richmond expects to save almost $60,000 on its energy bills this year. And West Contra Costa Unified School District expects an even greater savings, approximately $66,000.

MCE residential customers are also sharing the savings and benefiting from MCE’s lower rates. Most commercial customers will even have a saving with MCE’s Deep Green 100% renewable energy option.

MCE also offers customers increased rate stability by changing rates only once per year. Since May 2010, MCE has changed rates four times and PG&E has changed generation rates thirteen times.
