George Miller Not Running for Re-Election
January 13, 2014

Dear Friends,
I wanted to let you know that, as I enter my 40th year in Congress, I have decided not to seek re-election this fall.  This was not an easy decision to make but I believe it is the right one.  As I look back on my career and what I have been able to accomplish for kids, for workers, our economy and our environment, I know that I could not have done any of it without your confidence, support and friendship. Thank you for that.
It has been an honor to serve in Congress.  I continue to believe it is a remarkable institution that has the capacity to do so much to improve the lives of all Americans. I've worked hard every day for the causes and concerns that you and I believe are so important, and as much work as there remains to be done, and there’s plenty, I am proud of the laws I have passed and the advocacy I have carried out.
I expect to stay involved with the issues that are so important to us and to our country’s future and I'm excited about working on them in new ways after this last year in Congress.
I'm especially proud of the Affordable Care Act and the protections that all Americans have now that can never be taken away.  Having accomplished that after a century of trying, I am comfortable with my decision today.
Politico and the Contra Costa Times each ran stories today on my announcement, and you can find my full statement on my official website.
Thank you for all your support and thank you for staying engaged to ensure we can keep moving ahead.

Sincerely,

George Miller
