  Special Presentation on History of Child Care at Maritime Center

Richmond Community Foundation is pleased to share a special program that preseted by the National Park Service, Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Maritime Center at 2 PM.  The Maritime Center is located at 1014 Florida Avenue, on the corner of Harbour Way and Florida 

Professor Natalie Fousekis, from Cal State Fullerton, will be discussing her book, "Demanding Child Care: Women's Activism and the Politics of Welfare, 1940-1971"

The program will also include a screening of a short film of interviews with teachers and former students who were involved in the federally funded childcare system that emerged in the San Francisco Bay Area during World War II.  From the opening bell in the morning, nap time and fire drills, to a groundbreaking new art program, this film introduces viewers to the significance of the pioneering educational system from the perspective of those who witnessed it.
