Maritime Center Achieves LEED Gold Certification
August 14, 2012

The Maritime Child Development Center, rehabilitated by Rosie the Riveter Trust at a cost of $11 million, has just been awarded the LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Gold is the second-highest rating awarded under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.

The Maritime Center was original constructed in 1943 as part of the Kaiser shipyard complex and is now part of the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park. The rehabilitation architect was Hamilton + Aitken Architects, and the contractor was Alten Construction of Richmond.

The building is currently occupied by Richmond College Prep Charter School and Richmond Community Foundation. It also has a National Park Service interpretive center in a restored classroom.
