August 10, 2012

A few Richmond residents have brought to our attention that someone is delivering false report forms to Richmond residents. People are being told that these are claim forms for Chevron regarding the recent fire and asked to provide confidential information. These forms are a SCAM and should not be completed!! Please alert people.

Information about claims processing by Chevron is shown below:

A large plume of smoke from a fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond on Aug. 6, 2012.
Chevron will open a help center to assist residents affected by a large fire that broke out at its Richmond refinery Monday
The center will be located at Richmond's Nevin Community Center, 598 Nevin Ave. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
From Chevron's announcement:
Live operators are also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for those wishing to file a claim by phone. The number is 866-260-7881.
If you have already filed a claim by phone, you do not need to visit the Help Center.
We understand that individuals may be calling members of the community about making claims. These are not Chevron representatives; Chevron is not proactively contacting anyone regarding filing claims. There are only two ways a claim can be filed – by calling the above phone number or by visiting the help center located on Nevin Avenue.
The claims process has been set up through Crawford and Company, and we intend to compensate our neighbors for medical and property expenses incurred as a result of the incident.
Those who call the claim line will be asked a series of questions about their claim, which will then be routed to adjusters. Adjusters are attempting to respond to all claims within three days. Chevron will strive to pay appropriate and reasonable claims, including out-of-pocket medical and property-damage expenses.
