  Point Molate Land Swap
April 4, 2011

So many people were credulous about my April Fool’s day posting Breaking News - Feds Kabosh Point Molate Casino! March 31, 2011, that I wanted to set the record straight. There is no land swap and no fairy tale end to the proposed casino. The future of Point Molate will, in fact, be determined by the City Council tomorrow night, April 5, beginning at  6:30 PM in the Richmond Memorial Auditorium in the Civic Center. Some even argued that it wasn’t actually posted on April, but if you noticed, the deal was cut at 12:01 EDT, which is 9:01 PM March 31 in California.

I would not want anyone to miss the meeting believing the issue had been resolved.

After years of writing April Fool’s day posts on the E-FORUM, such as Bates Wants Turkeys Out of Richmond, April 1, 2010, and Richmond Chamber of Commerce Declares Bankruptcy, March 31, 2009, I thought everyone was on to it. I guess wishful thinking causes gullibility when the subject is compelling enough.

For the staff report, click on the following:
DETERMINE, consistent with the terms of the Settlement Agreement in Citizens for the East Shore State Park vs. City of Richmond (2006), and the Land Disposition Agreement between the City and Upstream Point Molate LLC, whether or not a casino use will continue to be considered at Point Molate. If the determination is made to discontinue consideration of the casino use at Point Molate, AUTHORIZE city staff to commence good-faith negotiations with Upstream with respect to an alternative non-gaming development proposal consistent with Section 2.8 of the Land Disposition Agreement. If the determination is made to continue consideration of the casino use at Point Molate, DIRECT city staff to take necessary actions to implement this determination - City Manager's Office (Bill Lindsay 620-6512).
