RICHMOND (KCBS) — A key component of a controversial casino-resort project on the Richmond waterfront could determine its fate.
The final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) on the proposed Vegas-style casino/resort at Pt. Molate on the Richmond waterfront is now ready to be reviewed by the city council. The majority on the council oppose the project, but Vice Mayor Tom Butt says certification of the EIR is the next logical step.
“If it’s complete and accurate we will certify it,” he said. “That doesn’t mean we approve the project.”
KCBS’ Dave Padilla Reports:

This project has been a lightening rod from the start. Richmond resident Don Gossney, who supports the casino, contends if this project vanishes so would the potential for 6,500 permanent jobs, 40 percent of which would go to Richmond residents.
Last November, voters defeated an advisory measure on the casino/resort—a project by the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians.
