Our Neighbors: Richmond Yacht Club keeps charity dollars local

The Richmond Yacht Club is thinking locally for its annual charity regatta Aug. 21-22. Where past regattas have benefitted the Stanford Medical Center, the recipients this year are the Richmond Emergency Food Pantry, Rubicon Programs, YES (Youth Enrichment Strategies) and the Bay Area Rescue Mission.
"Exporting Richmond charity dollars and sending them to Palo Alto makes no sense," said regatta Chairman Scott Gordon. "We think we should raise the money ourselves and keep it local."
Organizers of the annual "party with a conscience" hope to raise $50,000 from members, businesses and regatta entries for the four organizations.
A kickoff fundraiser for the weekend is A Taste of Richmond, a VIP dining gala hosted by Richmond Yacht Club members at 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at Brickyard Cove Marina in Point Richmond.
The red-carpet event will spotlight the best offerings of a dozen of Richmond's top restaurants, along with live jazz and a silent auction.
Tickets to the gala are $50 if ordered by today, $65 after, and admission includes food, wine and beer. All of the ticket revenue will go to local charities.

A Taste of Richmond

A Taste of Richmond is a benefit party to raise money to support local charities, including the Richmond Emergency Food Pantry, Youth Enrichment Strategies, Rubicon Programs and the Bay Area Rescue Mission. Members of the Richmond Yacht Club have organized an evening designed to showcase the best of Richmond's restaurants serving "tastes" of their showcase items, paired with wine and beer tastings to complement each dish. If you live in Richmond, if you work in Richmond, if you care about Richmond, you owe it to yourself and to Richmond to attend this party.
A Taste of Richmond will be held the evening of Friday, August 20 from 6:00 to 8:30 in a penthouse suite at Brickyard Cove Marina near the Richmond Yacht Club.
The Brickyard Cove Marina is one of Richmond's best addresses on the Riviera of San Francisco Bay. The views are incredible from Richmond and this location has some of the best views in town. You will feel like a star when you step out of your car and onto the red carpet and will be swept away with the live music of a 7-piece jazz band to make the night one that you will not forget.
Meet members of the Richmond Yacht Club, Richmond's civic leaders, and the best from the ranks of our non-profit superstars. Discover a new favorite dish at an old favorite restaurant and try a taste from a restaurant that you have not tried before.
Be part of the first annual "A Taste of Richmond" and be part of a new movement to make Richmond a better place to live and thrive.
