  Richmond Crime Rate Down Precipitously
July 31, 2010

KTVU Channel 2 ran a story last night on Richmond’s dropping crime rate. See http://www.ktvu.com/video/24460581/index.html. Crime is down 10% overall and 22% in the City’s traditionally busy Central District. Shots fired are down 37%, and homicides are down 60%.

Overall reduction in Richmond crime is a trend that has continued for several years.

Incidentally, Richmond is probably unique among Bay Area cities by continuing to hire police officers rather than laying them off.
