BNSF Richmond Rail Yard Health Risk Assessment

Tom,

You might want to let your readers know that the Health Risk assessment for BNSF's Richmond Yard will be released to the public at a meeting held by CA Air Resorces Board on June 13, 6:30pm, at the Hilltop Courtyard Marriott. More info can be found at www.arb.ca.gov/railyard/community/community.htm. The memorandum of understanding reached in 2005 between CARB and the two major railroads was rather groundbreaking in that it was a voluntary, cooperative effort by the railroads to place restrictions on themselves for the purpose of reducing emmissions that otherwise would be covered by interstate commerce laws. BNSF's Richmond Yard was identified as one of 17 facilities of concern in the state and the HRA being released on the 13th is a major step towards emission reductions locally.
