Forwarded from TRAC (Trails for Richmond Action Committee):

Great Holiday News! Today, the Board of Directors of East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) voted to amend the proposed 2006 Budget to appropriate $350K for developing Bay Trail access and restoring natural resources on Richmond's incredibly scenic but long-neglected northern shoreline. Of this, $200K will initiate CEQA compliance and construction design for the planned Bay Trail across West County Wastewater District (WCWD) property linking Wildcat Creek Regional Trail with San Pablo Creek and the new West County Landfill Bay Trail now under construction by Republic Services, Inc. EBRPD's Board also voted to seek additional grant funds needed to build this scenic trail on WCWD property. The other $150K of 2006 appropriations will go for planning and design of resource and public access enhancements as properties are acquired in the Point Pinole area.

Kudos go to to West County Wastewater District for licensing EBRPD to build and operate an important Bay Trail segment on their property, as well as to County Supervisor John Gioia and Mayor Irma Anderson for their leadership support. Many grass roots and governmental organizations also lent critical advocacy support, including North Richmond Municipal Advisory Council, ABAG Bay Trail Project, Wildcat/San Pablo Creeks Watershed Council, Contra Costa Transportation Authority, West Contra Costa Transportation Advisory Committee and EBRPD's Park Advisory Committee.

For convenient reference, attached is a map of Richmond's Bay Trail. The 24 miles of trail built and under construction are shown as solid red lines whereas the planned unbuilt 17 miles of planned trail segments are shown as dotted red lines.
