  Public Workshop on Refinery Flaring
March 22, 2005

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District) will hold a community meeting to invite public input on a proposed rule to minimize flare emissions at the Bay Area’s five petroleum refineries. The meeting will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Richmond City Council Chambers, 1401 Marina Way South in Richmond. The meeting will be held from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. “As part of our continuing efforts to protect public health, we are proposing a new rule to limit the amount of flaring at petroleum refineries. The rule would be the first of its kind in the nation,” said Jack Broadbent, the Air District’s Executive Officer. Air District staff will be available at the meeting to explain the proposed rule and receive comments. The public is encouraged to attend. Additional information on the proposed rule (Regulation 12, Rule 12) can be found on the Air District’s web site at http://www.baaqmd.gov/pln/ruledev/workshops.asp or by calling the Public Information Office at (415) 749-4900.

Questions, comments or concerns about the proposed flare rule can be submitted to the Air District: • In writing to Alex Ezersky, Rule Development Section, BAAQMD, 939 Ellis Street, San Francisco, CA 94109, • By e-mail to aezersky@baaqmd.gov or • By fax to (415) 749-4741, attn: Alex Ezersky.
