BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETS MARCH 12 TO CONSIDER NEW PARCEL TAX 

Responding to community concern about cuts to the 2004-05 budget approved March 8, the school board will hold a special meeting March 12 at 4 pm to consider placing a new parcel tax measure on the June ballot.  The school district has also begun receiving contributions from individuals and corporations who want to help support school programs.Contributions include $50,000 each from Safeway Foundation and Wells Fargo Bank, $25,000 from Mechanics Bank, and a portion of ticket sales from three games from the Oakland A's.  Read more at http://www.wccusd.k12.ca.us/ 

NEIGHBORHOOD MEETINGS HELP PREPARE FOR RECONSTRUCTION 

Neighborhood meetings on reconstruction at WCCUSD elementary schools continue through March 30. The purpose of the meetings is to discuss installation of portable classrooms, and the impact of construction on area residents, parents, and school staff.  Upcoming meetings include March 15 regarding Stewart School, March 29 on Kensington School, and, March 30 on Mira Vista. THE APPEAL OF BREAKFAST 

In addition to a nutritious breakfast and a writing lesson, second-graders in Ryan Maloney's class at Ford Elementary School got a chance to meet Assemblywoman Loni Hancock, Richmond Mayor Irma Anderson and Bobby Banana March 12. Officials visited the school to commend Ford's breakfast program and encourage other schools that qualify to offer breakfast to students. Read Across America activities continued the week of March 8, with Superintendent Gloria Johnston joining the celebration at Cameron School March 11 as a guest reader.

COLLEGE AND CAREER NIGHT MARCH 30

TESTING WINDOW SET FOR APRIL/MAY 

California Standards Tests and CAT6 tests will be administered April 20-May 18 to students in grades 2 through 11. Each school sets its own schedule within these dates. El Cerrito, De Anza, and Pinole Valley high schools will hold a fundraising golf tournament, the WCCUSD Golf Classic, to benefit their golf programs at Franklin Canyon golf course on Monday, March 29.
