  Thanksgiving Dinner for All
November 23, 2003
At least two local congregations are making sure no one goes hungry on Thanksgiving. You don’t have to be destitute, just wanting to enjoy Thanksgiving with friends.

(1) First United Methodist Church, 201 Martina at West Richmond Avenue, Point Richmond.

Thursday, November 27, 12 noon – 3:00 PM. Worship Service at 11:30 AM.  Free Thanksgiving Dinner, turkey with all the trimmings, homemade pie, thanks to donations from local merchants and church members, turkeys cooked by Baltic Restaurant chef Chuck Wise. All are welcome.

(2) First Baptist Church, Sonoma Street on the corner of Solano Avenue in Richmond, just above San Pablo Avenue and I-80

Thursday, November 27, 12 noon – 3:00 PM:  Businessman turned senior pastor Gary Cooper challenged his congregation to reach out to those in need in this community of close to 100,000. The church responded in the affirmative and are now actively inviting those who live in low income or senior housing units as well as others in need of a meal and companionship. Working alongside the members of FBC will be others from its sister congregation the Yu Mienh Church (a southeast Asian tribal people) and its newest church plant New Life Church of El Cerrito. "While it is said that Jesus fed 5,000 during one meal, our goal is a bit more modest to begin," states Pastor Gary. "We hope to feed at least 500. With the wide ethnic, racial, and economic diversity of the area, we know that there are many who might go without a celebration on Thanksgiving otherwise."

FBC is located at 770 Sonoma Street on the corner of Solano Avenue in Richmond, just above San Pablo Avenue and I-80.
