Golden State Model Railroad Association Acquires Baggage Car
January 9, 2003

One of Richmond's unique tourist attractions (See Tourism in Richmond, 11/23/02 - http://www.tombutt.com/forum/021123b.htm) the Golden State Model Railroad Association has acquired a full size baggage car that will be moved to its facility in Miller-Knox Regional Shoreline.

John Edgington reports:

"We have finally scheduled the move of the full size Union Pacific baggage car to the tracks in front of the Museum for Friday, January 17, 2003.  The permission from the Park District was just received before Christmas and now we are free to make the move.  Various of you have requested notice of the move as a newsworthy event and you are copied as well.  I will keep you apprised more closely as to the time of the move, but the best information at the moment is that we hope to have the car loaded on the truck by Thursday evening and move it to the Museum fairly early on Friday morning, perhaps at 8 or 9 AM, but at least by noon.  This will add to the railroad signature of the building and hopefully will add to our visitation."

"Donors who are helping make this move possible include Levin-Richmond Terminal Corporation and the Richmond Pacific Railroad which are donating the car and assisting in the move; Fahy Crane and Rigging, Inc., which is donating the unloading services at the Museum; and, the Point Richmond Pride Fund which provided a grant to assist with the project.  There will be a number of individuals helping with the move as well.  It will be interesting to see a full sized railroad car making the truck journey through the tunnel by the Plunge on its way to the abandoned siding that borders the Museum building in Miller-Knox Regional Park."
