AC Transit Board Of Directors Looking For One Good Person
May 15, 2002
AC Transit’s Board of Directors is seeking applicants interested in filling a vacant at-large seat on the seven-member body. The Board establishes policy for the public bus system serving some 236,000 daily riders throughout the East Bay.

This vacant at-large seat represents the entire District, which consists of all East Bay cities (except Union City) and adjacent unincorporated communities (west of the hills) from Richmond/San Pablo on the north to Fremont in the south. Persons interested in filling this vacancy must live and be registered to vote within the District’s geographic boundaries.

The new director will be expected to participate in regular District Board meetings. Meetings are normally held on the first and third Thursday of each month. The Director also serves on one or more Board Committees that usually meet on Board meeting days. Attendance at other meetings may be required. The director will be required by California’s Political Reform Act of 1974 (Government Code section 81000, et seq.) to file a Disclosure of Assets form within 30 days of taking office. AC Transit directors receive compensation in the amount of $100 for attending authorized meetings, up to a maximum (limited by law) of $500 per month.

In filling the at-large seat, this new policy maker will serve out the remainder of former AC Transit Director Matt Williams’ term of office, which ends on the first Friday of December 2002. The at-large position on the District’s Board will be on the ballot in the next General Election in November.

Applicants interested in appointment to fill this Board vacancy must submit a resume, a written or typed statement or letter, no more than two pages in length, expressing interest in and qualifications for selection, and three individual letters of recommendation.

Address application packages to AC Transit’s Board President. Applications must be hand delivered to Rose Martinez, AC Transit’s District Secretary, at 1600 Franklin Street, 10th floor, in downtown Oakland (94612) by 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002. Selection will be made by June 18. For further information, call the District Secretary’s office at 510 891-7284.
