City Council Energy Committee Endorses City Manager's Decision to Move Richmond Fossil Fuel Power Plant to Back Burner
June 4, 2001

At the Richmond City Council Energy Committee meeting today, the City Manager announced to a full house that the fossil fuel power plant he first proposed on April 24 was being moved "to the back burner." He went on to say that the City had other more pressing priorities that required the resources and attention of City staff. Approximately 44 speakers had signed up to speak in opposition, but after the committee took a unanimous vote to abandon pursuit of the plant, several speakers agreed to leave without being heard. Nevertheless, dozens of speakers voiced opposition to the fossil fuel plant and support of the City pursuing a program of energy conservation and the use of renewable energy resources.
